Gateway Women

Gateway Women is a group you may not have heard of before if you have children.

For women who haven’t heard of the Gateway Women, it is a free global  social group for childless not by choice women.

I attended my first ‘meeting’ today in Sheffield, which literally meant meeting in Sheffield Tap bar at the side of the train station.

I had already met one of the ladies attending, so when i saw her and made my way over, i received the most warmest of greetings from Faye (who i knew) and the three other ladies that had just arrived. Bearing in mind that none of us new anybody and there was three new members with myself joining Faye and Helen who usually attend and arrange the Sheffield meetings.

I thought i may be nervous but you know what, i was instantly at ease and there was no pressure to tell your ‘story’, it was a group of ladies who had met up for a drink and just ‘got’ each other and you know had a laugh. We were from all different backgrounds and all had different stories about how we have become childless not by choice.

When you find your tribe you know, you know that what ever your feeling or have ever felt, they have probably felt it too. The things other people say that can be insensitive or hurtful just because that person hasn’t thought through what they are saying to you or how they are acting around you, they get that feeling.

If you are childless not by choice and are looking for your tribe, then look up your local Gateway group and go meet them. I am sure that you won’t be disappointed. I feel like i have made another four friends today!
